Choosing a good domain name can be hard, can't it? I know my first domain was awfully boring - tashaj.info! And with so many domain names already taken, what can you do? Well, here are some tips for choosing a good domain name.
Make sure it's short - this means that it is more likely to be remembered. Short domain names are catchier than longer ones, and you're more likely to remember abc.com than abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz.com!
Make sure it's appropriate - this is really important. You need a domain name that suits your website. That doesn't mean that a graphics website needs to have 'graphics' in the domain, just means that you don't have a domain for a blogging website that sounds like it's a real estate agent website!
Make sure you can design around it - this is another thing some people don't think about. You've thought of that awesome domain name, but can you actually make a suitable design for it? Is the name really going to look good on a logo, and is the design really going to suit the name. It's pretty much expected that a domain with 'penguin' in it means the website is going to have penguins on it somewhere! So think about it.
Try something new with words - say, for example, you like the word 'bruce'. Well, that seems a bit plain, so think about it, say it out loud, stretch out the syllables, mix up the letters, and you could come up with something new and funky, such as 'barooce'!
Hope all of this helps you out. Just remember to keep it short, different, appropriate and easy to design for!
