How Much Is My Website Worth?

Postby Brody on Thu Apr 17, 2008 5:53 pm

How can you judge or value how much a website is worth? I have tried a few of those free appraisal tools but I think they are junk.

Yah, most of them are junk. They either go for a higher value in order to make you happy and keep you coming back, or they go for a low number in order to sell you a products on how to make your site more valuable.

The best way is to try to sell it, aiming higher than you really want or think that it's worth, and see what people are willing to pay. Ultimately, someone way really want your site, and would be willing to pay more whereas other times, people may not want your site.

A good indicator used on site buying/selling places, is 10x the monthly revenue. Hope that helps!

Yep, a website is generally worth 10 times it's monthly profit. If you have a real good earner you can get as much as 24 months and you find those bid dogs at sitepoint.

A friend's blog that I read regularly just wrote about this actually.....
http://blogbadly.com/blog-content/how-m ... tors-list/

He writes about what NOT to do with your blog, and if you read between the lines, it's basically what to do. So, he goes down the list of these ridiculous websites that value your website. It'd be a good fun laugh.

The value of your website can depend on a large number of things:

It depends on the type of site and who you are aiming to sell the site to. If you advertise on a forum like this or digital point forums then there are a lot of people who know what they are talking about and will all be bidding for the lowerst possible price. A web site to them is purely, traffic and money. Where as if you are selling your site more on the "open market" you will gain interest from parties who might not be as well informed or consider it a great buy due to the topic.

Saying that, if you have a site that generates $x amount of income per month and has a great amount of regular traffic then selling to the less informed buyer might not be in your best interest.

Also bear in mind that your website, is your site so will feel of more value to you than to someone who might purely want the domain name.

Agreed. Although there are still some people that are not very well informed and do not know how much to bid. You have to look objective in order to come up with a fair price tag for your site. The most common factors revenue, traffic and potential. If your site doesnt have much potential to develop that might bring down the price a lil bit. Revenue is the probably the biggest factor in determing the price of your site. If you are making good money of your site a lot of people would like to bring out their cash to buy the site.

You can leave the url in order we can give you our opinion.

I think if people are buying for profit I heard 10x the revenue. But again you will get the odd site selling that hasn't been optimised. Might be worth people posting up their URL's and members giving their estimations!

I have heard similar thing. If you buy a website for 10 times the revenue you can start earning cleear profit in 10 months. If a person hard working enough it can starting make you profit even earlier. IMO 10 times the montly the revenue is quite reasonable price!

Have you guys heard recently of the person who bought that failing blog, onemansgoal.com ? Many a-list blgogers ripped into the buyer and it was huge drama, because he bought the blog for like $10000 when most estimated it not being worth nearly as much as that.

Here is a great tool i use. Its the most accurate i've seen of yet.

WebSite Price Calculator

The best method is to review it by hand however. A good estimate is to find your annual income. Thats a good place to start. :geek:

With in-depth analysis of the traffic across the site, one can track usage and generate explicit reports on how the site is being used by visitors. Understanding the online customer and all of the different aspects of a web visitor's experience is critical to ensuring the effectiveness of a site and ensuring that the goals of the web site are met.
