How to do SEO for your blog?

Postby forumguy on Mon Apr 14, 2008 1:58 pm

I know that there are numerous ways to do SEO for sites but only a few or no specific ways to SEO proof your blog. I wonder is there a thumbrule or any methods with which i can seo proof my blog, so that it gets the much needed top ranking?

The biggest mistake new blog owners make is not using PERMALINKS.... permalinks is essential for SEO for blogs...

Go to your wordpress admin, go to Settings, then go to Permalinks, then use Day and Name, Month and Name, or a custom structure with "%postname%" in it.... This will significantly improve your SEO for your blog.

Also, the plugin "All-In-One SEO" for Wordpress, is a must-have.

forumguy is your blog using Wordpress or Blogger for content management? If you are using blogger I have some code you can use that will help. What it does is create unique title and meta tags for every page of your blog using the title of your blog post.

If your using Wordpress the post above me pretty much covers it all.

Could you tell us it anyway, so it will help out anyone who finds this in the future.

I have considered making a few blogger blogs to see if i can rank well for them, and save me a little money, so i would love to have that.

Sure can - you can actually see the code in action on http://www.GuruCreation.com which is where I "stole" it from ;)

On the "Template" page in your back office where you edit your template you first need to...

1. Bottom of the page choose the option to "revert to classic template". The wording should be something along those lines.

2. Next add the code below to the header file of your template.

<mainpage><title><$BlogTitle$></title></mainpage>
<ArchivePage><title><$BlogPageTitle$> Archive</title></ArchivePage>
<itempage><title><blogger><$BlogItemTitle$></blogger> - <$BlogTitle$></title></itempage>
<MainPage><meta name=”description” content=”<$BlogTitle$> of <$BlogDescription$>” /></MainPage>
<ArchivePage><meta name=”description” content=”<$BlogPageTitle$> Archive, <$BlogDescription$>” /></ArchivePage>
<ItemPage><meta name=”description” content=”<Blogger><$BlogItemTitle$></Blogger> - <$BlogTitle$>” /></ItemPage>
<meta name=”keywords” content=”<ItemPage> <Blogger><$BlogItemTitle$></Blogger>,</ItemPage> <ArchivePage><Blogger><$BlogItemTitle$>,
</Blogger></ArchivePage><$BlogTitle$>” />
<meta content='follow all' name='robots'/>
<$BlogMetaData$>

This is the only way this will work so everyone that asks about Beta that is what you have to do also.

SEO is of 2 types- on page and off page...you need to consider both for a nice ranking in search engines...on page is like how many outbound links are there etc and off page is the meta description, title text, permalinks etc
do some google search and i am sure you will get a lot of information on these two
