Do you create a template?

Postby CPhil on Mon Apr 21, 2008 10:13 am

I have had a go at creating a few web sites. I tend to just open up notepad and go, a day or two later I come back and mess around a bit. I remember using Dreamweaver a while back and saving a file as a template. Do you create a template for your site before you start adding content or do you just copy/paste and change the necessary bits when you need a new page?

Thanks Jonathan. Its something I should probably brush up on before I start creating more sites. Do you have any links to online dreamweaver tutorials or resources?

I usually work on my script before actually editing the template. Once that I get everything done I try to make it as flexible and possible then header, footer and othere elements are added by means of PHP inclusion.

For both script and template I prefer a simple but helpul HTML editor called Aranea, very simple to use, with code highlighting and multi-tabbed so you can work and perform search and replace functions in multiple pages at a time :ugeek:

That sounds like a good editor. Is Aranea free?

My next project is going to have a lot more planning than my normal approach.

I do not make very complexed sites. So i do not create or use any template files. I directly start adding content to the project. Format and edit everything as i think it should be. Save and test. If everything is fine upload and run. :) My routine is pretty simple.

I usually download free css templates, and modify them to what i want, colors and graphics wise. It is easy to find free ones and if you know html and css, then it is even easier to modify it to your specifications... it can save you a lot of time.

Where do you usually get templates from? What is the best place? Do the original creators require to leave their copyright?

Some do, some don't..... either most, most don't require you to keep it dofollow, so just change the link to nofollow so that you don't pass any juice. Most copyrights are tucked down in the very bottom of the footer in small font anyway.

http://www.oswd.org/ is a good place to find them.

I really disklike the fact that some wants the copyright to remain. Just getting in my nerves. Thanks for the site as a matter of fact i have never been there before. Our Favorite Designs tab contains some real nice designs but i wonder how many people are using the, A lot of editing has to be done.
